A note on cookies.
What they do on this site, and the choices that are yours.
This page describes what is stored on your device when you visit neospherium.com, who receives information about your visit, and what you can do about it. It describes what happens today.
1 · What we mean by cookies
Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser.
Two other things work the same way and are covered here: values kept in your browser's local storage, and small requests sent to other companies, which carry your IP address and the address of the page you are on.
2 · What happens on your first page view
The measurement tools load with the page. They run before the banner appears and before you press anything.
On that first page view, Google receives a record of the page you opened. So does Meta. So does Klaviyo, the system that sends our email.
The cookies listed in section 5 are set at the same moment.
3 · The two buttons
The banner offers two choices: Allow all, and Stop Google and Meta. There is no third option, no switch for each category, and no settings panel.
Allow all lets everything continue.
Stop Google and Meta stops Google Analytics, the Google Merchant Center tag and Meta from the next page you open, and ends Shopify's own visit counting. Google Fonts still loads, because the page needs its typefaces. Klaviyo also continues, because it is loaded by a different part of the site that the banner does not control.
Neither button undoes the page you are already on.
Neither button deletes the Google, Meta or Klaviyo cookies already set. Those stay until they expire or you clear them yourself. Section 5 says which ones.
Stop Google and Meta does remove the Shopify analytics and marketing cookies.
Meta also receives events from Shopify's servers, not only through cookies in your browser. Stop Google and Meta stops those server events too, from the next page you open. The Privacy Policy says what those events carry.
4 · Changing your mind
Your choice is stored in your browser for one year, in a cookie named _pandectes_gdpr. The banner does not ask again during that year.
There is no control on this website that changes a stored choice.
Two things do work. Clearing site data for neospherium.com in your browser makes the banner appear again on your next visit. And your browser's own cookie settings can block or delete anything on this list at any time.
5 · What is set, by whom, and for how long
Kept whatever you choose
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| _shopify_essential | Shopify | Keeps your session and your bag working | 1 year |
| localization | Shopify | Remembers the country and language used to price your order and route delivery. Set on the first request, because the store cannot show a price without it | 1 year |
| _pandectes_gdpr | the banner app | Records which button you pressed | 1 year |
| _shop_app_essential | Shopify, on shop.app | Set by Shopify's Shop recognition script, which runs on every Shopify storefront. Sign in with Shop is not offered here | set by Shopify. Your browser shows the date |
| ns_fx_v1 | NeoSpherium | Local storage, not a cookie. The day's exchange rates | until cleared |
| ns_cur_v1 | NeoSpherium | Local storage, not a cookie. Written only if you pick a currency, and only to show prices in it | until cleared |
| signInWithShop:cartSyncNextRecognitionAt | Shopify | Local storage, not a cookie. Part of the same Shop recognition script. It does not mean Shop sign-in is available here | until cleared |
Set on the first page view, removed if you press Stop Google and Meta
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| _shopify_y, _shopify_s | Shopify | Count visits and sessions | 1 year, and 30 minutes |
| _shopify_analytics, _shopify_marketing | Shopify | Record where a visit came from | 1 year |
| shopify_client_id | Shopify | Identifies the browser to Shopify's own measurement | set by Shopify. Your browser shows the date |
Set on the first page view, and not removed if you press Stop Google and Meta
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga, _ga_KD8C4BFRDC | Google Analytics | Tell us how many people visit and which pages are read | about 13 months |
| _ga_6180JXB6EH | the Google tag that reports to Google Merchant Center, where our products are listed | Measures what happens after someone arrives from a Google product listing | about 13 months |
| _fbp | Meta | Lets Meta measure what people do after seeing our posts and advertising | about 3 months |
| fr | Meta, on facebook.com and not on our domain | The same measurement, held by Meta | about 3 months |
| __kla_id | Klaviyo | Links a visit to an email profile, if you have ever given us your email address | about 13 months |
The name of the button is honest about its limits. It stops the two companies it names, and Shopify's own counting. It does not reach Klaviyo, and it does not reach the Google, Meta or Klaviyo cookies already on your device.
Klaviyo also writes several values into your browser's local storage, among them __kl_key, klaviyoOnsite, $referrer and $last_referrer. Neither button clears them.
Requests that carry your IP address on every page
- Google Fonts serves our two typefaces.
- Cloudinary serves many of our photographs.
- An exchange rate service at open.er-api.com, run by exchangerate-api.com, is called by our own script so prices can be shown in currencies other than the Dinar. Its operator states that personal information sits on servers in Ireland, South Africa and Germany, and the service is served through Cloudflare.
- The banner app, run by Pandectes, records the page view. Pandectes is registered in Estonia and states that it keeps only the last two parts of an IP address, not the whole one.
- Klaviyo looks up your country from your IP address.
6 · Global Privacy Control
If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, Meta does not load. No request goes to Meta and no Meta cookie is set.
Google and Klaviyo still load, and still set their cookies.
The store also records the visit as one where personal information may not be sold.
